South from Tipton on Hwy 5 for 4.5 miles, then west 0.5 miles on East Manito Rd.

Highlights

Manito is uplands fields divided by brushy fencelines and drainages, and woodlands that surround the lake. The 77 acre, Manito Lake, is a predominant feature of the area. The lake has accomodations for shoreline fishing, disabled access parking and fishing jetties, a privy and boat ramp.

About This Area

Manito Lake Conservation Area is in western Moniteau County near Fortuna. The area was purchased in 1981 and is 871 acres in size. The rolling uplands combine a mix of grassland, oldfields, and cropland divided by brushy fencelines and drainages. The area is managed to provide year-round food and cover for upland wildlife. Manito is an American Indian word that means great spirit. Manito is also a variation of the county name, Moniteau.
