Connect with nature in springtime at MDC’s free MDC Outdoor Skills event May 7 at Windsor
Windsor, Mo. – Getting outdoors to fish or camp is a great way to have fun and connect with nature, especially in spring. Learn how and gain some lifetime hobbies when the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) hosts a free Outdoor Skills Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 7, at Farrington Park Lake in Windsor. All equipment and hands-on training are provided so participants can learn about fishing, camping, and archery.
Individuals and families can sharpen an old outdoor skill or learn a new one with help from Ginger Miller, MDC conservation educator, and volunteers. Friendly tips and demonstrations will provide the knowledge needed to have fun outdoors. Events will be based at the park’s Shelter House E.
MDC will have the gear, bait, and coaches on hand to help visitors go fishing in Farrington Park Lake. Participants ages 16 to 65 will need to have a valid fishing permit.
“Perhaps you’ve been wanting to fish but weren’t sure what equipment to purchase or how to clean and prepare your fish for the table,” Miller said. “We will help you get started fishing and demonstrate how to clean and cook your catch. There will be samples available for you to taste fresh cooked fish.”
Youths must be ages 9 and older to participate in the outdoor skills. COVID-19 safety precautions will be observed. The program is limited to 30 participants. Registration is required.
