Little Acorns

It only makes sense to be curious about an animal that “smells” with its tongue. This month we will investigate the five senses of the snake and learn how they use them to be successful hunters. Sssssee you there! Registration required. Must have a child in the 0-2 age range AND the 3-6 age range.

Nature Art

Join us in learning about reducing waste and helping nature at the same time! Participants will craft with recyclables and trash to create a unique art piece that also benefits nature. Registration required. Ages 7+

Hummingbirds are bulking up to prepare for their flight south visiting feeders and native wildflowers. Discover more about these tiny fliers through ongoing activities and displays and find out what you can do to help with their migratory journey. No registration required. All ages invited.

Hiking

Put on your hiking shoes and join us for a guided hike of Deer Run Trail at Rock Bridge State Park (Boone County); 3.5 miles – easy. Meet at the Runge Nature Center or the trailhead. Some transportation is provided, but carpooling may be necessary. Hike leaders will contact participants before the hike to give directions if needed. Wear sturdy shoes, dress for the weather, bring a water bottle, and pack a lunch/snack. Registration required. Ages 18+

How do animals beat the heat? How do they survive winter? Join us in the Runge lobby to learn all about animal survival tactics. Staff and volunteers will have ongoing activities and crafts available for all ages. No registration required. All ages invited.

Bring the family and join us for two different Wild Kratts episodes under the stars! Between episodes you can explore, interact, and learn more about the animals featured in the evening’s shows! Bring bug spray and a blanket. We'll provide the popcorn! No registration required. All ages invited.

Hiking

Grab your hiking stick and join a guided hike at Clifty Creek and Painted Rock Conservation Areas (Maries and Osage Counties); 4 miles-easy/moderate. Meet at the Runge Nature Center or the trailhead. Wear sturdy shoes, dress for the weather, bring a water bottle, and pack a lunch/snack. Registration required. Ages 18+

Kayaking

Kayaking is an awesome way to get outdoors and connect with nature. Join us as we learn about the equipment and techniques needed to kayak safely in Missouri before experiencing being on the water yourself. All kayaking equipment will be provided. Bring closed-toe shoes, a water bottle, and dress for the weather. We will meet at the boat launch area on the west side of Binder Lake. Registration required. Ages 12+

Kayaking

Spend the day with Runge naturalists as we paddle and explore the Moreau River from the Stringtown Bridge Access to Honey Creek Access. Runge will provide round-trip transportation from the nature center, kayaks, paddles, and personal floatation devices. Pack a water bottle and lunch, and a pair of closed-toe shoes that can get wet. Participants under the age of 18 must complete a permission form before taking part in the program. Registration required. Ages 13+
